Les évolutions de gameplay permettent à ce PES 2013 de faire un petit pas en avant dans le monde impitoyable de la simulation footballistique. Plus de liberté nous est offerte grâce aux fonctions manuelles et quelques améliorations techniques ont été apportées ici et là. Toutefois, l'intelligence artificielle n'a pas bénéficié d'assez de travail et il se peut que certains joueurs s'agacent rapidement devant des éléments pénibles déjà présents dans les précédents opus. Au final, ce volet reste une alternative potentielle à FIFA pour ceux qui préfèrent plus d'ouvertures en phase d'attaque sans pour autant franchir l'étape qui permettrait de remettre les deux séries à un niveau équivalent, d'un point de vue général.
